From a hacked site to SEO success – the Floor Styling case study.

For Floor Styling, we addressed a hacked website and declining SEO performance. As a result, their discoverability has been restored and leads are growing again.

Recover failed SEO migration

The Problem
In the summer of 2024, Floor Styling’s website was hacked. The hosting environment was poorly secured, resulting in more than 10,000 fake pages appearing in a short period of time with terms such as casino, lottery, and Eurojackpot. For a supplier of wooden floors, these are not exactly the keywords Floor Styling wants to be found for. Moreover, no backups were available, and the site was riddled with various types of malware.

Our Approach
We first attempted to restore the existing website, but due to a combination of malware and technical shortcomings, this was not a sustainable solution. Therefore, we opted for a completely new custom-built website. In addition, we removed all harmful content and established a clean, well-structured SEO foundation.

We also found thousands of automatically generated city pages—even for small villages—with no added value. These have been cleaned up and replaced with relevant, handwritten content.

The Result
Floor Styling’s SEO had completely collapsed due to all these issues. Thanks to a stable, secure website (floorstyling.nl) and a revamped content structure, growth is back on track. The first organic lead inquiries have already come in—and the foundation is solid for further optimization.

Action Plan

  1. We opted for a luxurious yet accessible design that aligns with Floor Styling’s brand image. During the design phase, we took the client’s down-to-earth Frisian approach as our starting point, while still incorporating persuasive copy and clear calls to action.
  2. The new website was developed in a test environment and populated with up-to-date, high-quality content. All texts were written in line with the client’s USPs and in the appropriate tone of voice.
  3. We have launched the new website, implementing 301 redirects for all old and older URLs to relevant new pages. (We have applied 410-gone redirects to all SPAM pages.)

Why is this interesting for you?

Any business owner can choose a web developer who pays less attention to SEO. But that can have major consequences. Floor Styling is, unfortunately, a good example of this: a hacked website, thousands of irrelevant pages, and a collapse in discoverability.
