What are wireframes?
You’ve probably heard the term “wireframe” before. Online marketers and IT professionals use the term all the time, but what exactly is a wireframe? The concept of a wireframe isn’t as complicated as you might think. Basically, it’s just the interface or layout of a website. For example, if you visit the Digital Wizards website, you’ll see that the site is divided into different blocks. The layout of these blocks and the various elements that go with them can be turned into a sketch. This sketch is called a wireframe.
Why is a wireframe important?
A wireframe determines what a website looks like. A potential visitor to your website first encounters the layout and appearance of your site. A sloppy or cluttered layout can deter the visitor. And of course, you don’t want to forget any features or functions during development. It is, so to speak, the blueprint of a website that clearly maps out everything, much like an architect’s construction drawing. An attractive and well-organized wireframe is therefore extremely important for your final website.

How is a wireframe created?
A wireframe is a rough sketch of your website. This sketch is created by a web designer, so it often involves few technical aspects. The web designer will create several wireframes for you, as there are, of course, many different ways to structure your website. Additionally, you will need multiple wireframes.
We recommend creating a wireframe for every important page type, such as:
Wireframes for a Website
- Homepage
- Contact page
- Blog and/or news – detail page
- Blog and/or news – overview page
- Services – detail page
- Services – Overview Page
- Standard text page (for example, your content pages)
Wireframes for an online store
In addition to the wireframes listed above, a custom web store often includes the following selection of pages:
- Product overview page
- Product detail page
- Checkout: shopping cart steps
- Checkout: payment process steps
What does a wireframe do for your website?
A wireframe is essential for the layout of your website. What is the goal you want to achieve? Do you want to ensure visitors quickly click on a specific product, or do you want to encourage interaction? These are all factors you need to take into account. An interactive image featuring your product can encourage people to click on it more quickly, while a large text box can actually increase interaction. The web designer will always create multiple wireframes for you so that you can choose the right one.
What types of wireframes are there?
Wireframes can be broadly divided into three types. Below, we will briefly describe the different types.
- Low-fidelity Wireframe
A low-fidelitywireframe is a wireframe in its basic form. Few details have been added yet, and it is a very rough sketch.
- Medium-fidelity wireframes
This type of wireframe already begins to resemble an actual website. Many details have been added, and the structure is clearly visible.
- High-fidelity Wireframe
High-fidelity wireframes are highly detailed and can include actual content from your new site. Naturally, creating this wireframe also takes more time.
