A migration of 9 websites to a single website while maintaining SEO: Digital Wizards successfully executed this for Digital Customer Care
For Digital Customer Care, we performed a content and SEO migration from 9 websites to one. If you’re looking for a company that specializes in outsourcing webcare and live chat, Digital Customer Care is the right choice. As the company has continued to grow significantly, the number of websites has increased over time: each for a specific country and language. At one point, the number of websites had risen to 9, with some websites also supporting multiple languages.
Because this was no longer feasible in terms of maintenance, Digital Customer Care recognized the need for a single website for all countries. Additionally, there were various labels with different names, which prevented operations from being conducted under a single clear brand name. Digital Wizards was commissioned to carry out a website migration that would properly transfer both the content and the SEO.
Over time, Digital Customer Care has added many new services, and a new brand and website were launched for each one. Customers recognized the name Digital Customer Care from emails and invoices, so it was a logical step to opt for a single umbrella website. The following websites were migrated:
The intention was to host the new website on a ‘.nl’ domain, but from an international perspective, this would not be ideal. Therefore, ‘.eu’ was chosen.
The migration began with a session where we worked with the client to develop a strategy for consolidating everything onto a single website. It was not only important that the new website included all services and languages, but also that all content and SEO rankings remained intact or even improved. Digital Wizards then started work on the new website by creating a copy of digitalcustomercare.nl and deploying it to a pre-live environment. We optimized the theme on this environment, along with a number of other tasks:
Once all content from the other 8 websites had been migrated to the new site, the pre-live environment was launched on digitalcustomercare.eu. Immediately afterward, digitalcustomercare.nl was redirected to digitalcustomercare.eu. Many pages remained the same, but there were also many old 404 pages that we had to handle using a redirect file in the .htaccess. After this initial migration, we performed a migration for all other countries and languages.
